I'm pretty sure it's transphobic, but I feel the same. :-( Somebody above said it well - most fics tend to be primarily a way for the author to focus preachily on the character's trans status, rather than a good story. I'm really only interested in that sort of thing (focusing heavily on a specific facet of a character without plot) if it's fetishized in smut. Otherwise you need to have some plot to keep me going, even in alternate sexuality stories.

It's not transphobic to not like preachy issue fic. You say you need a plot to keep going, so say you're reading YA. From this, I'm guessing the usual YA gayst and sexuality angst wouldn't do it for you, but if you were reading a sci-fi plot where a character was LGBT but it only affected the plot in a little way/wasn't constantly angsted over, you wouldn't care, right?
