Not taking teenage girls seriously IS a horrible thing that men are out to do to women, so your friends are actually right.

(Anonymous) 2014-08-13 11:14 pm (UTC)(link)
or maybe it's not this simple and this teenager isn't giving anyone enough credit

And now we're back into petty gender warfare. You're not helping with blanket statements that are mostly untrue. One bad apple don't spoil the whole bunch.

OP thinks her fandom will stop taking her seriously if she's outed. I trust her judgement.

To be honest, I tend not to take teenage girls seriously either, because I remember when I was a teenage girl, and I was an entitled shit.

(Anonymous) 2014-08-13 11:29 pm (UTC)(link)
because you = everyone

(To be fair, it's easy not to take young people seriously -- most adults do it.)

Honey, teenagers in general aren't taken seriously by adults in general.

Truth comment.

Most of the fandoms I'm in consist of young people. They take each other seriously. I take them seriously because eight times out of ten they're more talented than I am.

And once again, I'm surprised that Fandom Secrets is reacting with shock at the idea that women's worries about male hostility might be well-founded. Eventually I'll remember you guys don't believe sexism is still a thing.

Of course young people take other young people seriously. They're also young people.

You're missing the point, which is that older people don't take young people seriously. Adults don't take teenagers seriously. If you want to make something of this, then it should be about ageism, not sexism.

And, by the way, if someone talks about a social divide other than sexism, it doesn't mean they don't think sexism exists.

no everything is sexism everything has to do with penis shut up stop trying to take the dicks out of my ears

And then there are the creepers.

not taking teenage girls seriously makes sense because they're teenagers. same for teenage boys.

in reality, teenagers who are mature enough to be taken seriously are also more likely to not reveal their age, anyway
