Likes to Hits ratio
(Anonymous) 2014-08-13 11:07 pm (UTC)(link)If you're just going straight stats, my highest-hit fic (Harry Potter) has 612 hits and 26 kudos, or 1 kudo for every 23 hits (1:23). But if you factor hits that in all likelihood are kudo-ers returning for a new chapter, and there are 12 chapters (26x12), it's more like 26 kudos for every 336 hits, or 1 kudo for every 8 hits. That's pretty good, I think.
My newest fic, a Teen Wolf WIP published Aug 4 and last updated Aug. 11, has 11 kudos in 259 hits (1:23), but following the same assumption above, it works out to 11:204 (1:18).
How bout y'all? Share some stats on your most-hit and most-recent fics, if you dare. (I have a feeling I'm going to feel really inadequate by the end of this thread...).
Re: Likes to Hits ratio
I do know that my "best" in terms of response to hits is one with the lowest number of hits: a short poem (about an Otto Frello painting) I wrote for yuletide: 91 hits, 6 comments, 7 kudos, which is 1:7. Next best looks to be my most kudoed, a Jurassic Park Muldoon/Clever Girl story, with 1:10.
The Old School Rule of thumb was to feel accomplished if you got a review per every 100 hits.

(Anonymous) 2014-08-13 11:24 pm (UTC)(link)God, what I would give for an actual, honest to god review. Looking at stats as a whole (and ignoring what could be repeat hits), I'm looking at 22 fics with 130 kudos and 3,836 or 1:29.
Re: Likes to Hits ratio
I'm thrilled whenever I get an "actual honest to god review" -- it always re-energizes me to continue with a piece -- but I've come to accept that most readers don't bother.
Re: Likes to Hits ratio
eta: I did total hits/kudos and got 15:1, which isn't as low as I thought, SPN fics dragging me down.
Re: Likes to Hits ratio
What I noticed: on ff.net multi-chaptered WIPs get more hits than one-shots, while on AO3 it's the reverse (I guess they like WIP's less there)
My last one-shot on AO3 has 100 kudos, 12 comments (but half those are mine, as I reply - so 6 commenter), 1347 hits and 18 bookmarks. So fairly low comment ratio.
My most recent WIP (2 chapters up) has 12 kudo's, 2 comments, 2 bookmarks and 267 hits.
Often I also think it really depends on which pairing you write. the one-shot is explicitly shippy while the WIP is not.
Re: Likes to Hits ratio
(Anonymous) 2014-08-13 11:25 pm (UTC)(link)1 kudos for every 10 hits or less = very good fic
1 kudos for every 20 -30 hits = solid read or undiscovered gem
1 kudos for every 40 - 60 hits = no man's land
1 kudos for every 60 - 100 hits = usually slightly OOC or has many errors
1 kudos for every 100 + hits = usually very OOC or has many errors or both
Things I find throw this system off: when it's a HS AU, ABO, multichaptered, or a crossover with a bigger fandom. Then the kudos/hits ratio is too distorted to gauge.

(Anonymous) 2014-08-14 12:29 am (UTC)(link)I prefer to divide it up in terms of kudos/word count, because that makes me feel so much better. :) (Which is about 1/70.)
Re: Likes to Hits ratio
Funny enough, the one in Avengers is 1:13 as well, but it's not as popular. (It has a much lower hit count.)
I blame the difference in that one is a semi-ploty romance and the other is a gen attempted suicide fic. (Also, I've only written one shots so the chapter thing doesn't apply.)
Re: Likes to Hits ratio
(It's for a small segment of a small fandom, however, so I have to wonder if some people are reading and liking it simply because it's there)

Re: Likes to Hits ratio
i don't have access to my ao3 atm but my average is probably somewhere around 3% with my best ratios coming from smaller fandoms.

(Anonymous) 2014-08-14 11:27 am (UTC)(link)Current worst is 1:10500+. I'm hoping this might be a fic getting hit by a bot!
Overall is 1:32, which is decent enough for me...
