Pooping in fiction

(Anonymous) 2014-08-13 11:14 pm (UTC)(link)
How many characters in fiction actually do this (like, it's actually mentioned)?

Inspired by the Belwas thing.

I've never really thought much about it but now that you mention it...I don't think I've ever read/seen anything where it was mentioned.

Koromon from Digimon comes to mind.

I think it's fairly common in certain genres of manga/anime. Gintama, Gag Manga Biyori, etc.

It's more common in comedic media in general in my experience

I know that digging latrines/using them is brought up in the Protector of the Small quartet, and I think maybe in the earlier books, but I haven't read them recently like with the PoTS ones.

UNTRUE, there are several characters in Metal Gear Solid who poop (or pee!). Diarrhea is a running gag for a character named Johnny. (Stay classy, Metal Gear.)

That icon will never not be hilarious. Hello again, buddy. I've missed you Dale.)

Dany gets diarrhea in one of the books as well. And there's this hilarious bathroom scene in Battlestar Galactica, can't remember if there's poop though. And we cannot forget Tony peeing in his suit. That's almost poop. Loads of bodily functions.

They missed you, bb.

Ooo, I almost forgot about Tony peeing in his suit! Good old Tony.

There's also the Dumb and Dumber scene... usually the pooping is played for laughs.

I'm sure there's a million more, but the only other one I can think of atm is Fargo (the tv series), Billy Bob's character is sitting on the toilet when someone bursts into his hotel.

Naruto did early in the series, I don't know if it's been in canon or fillers after that.

I seem to recall John Travolta's character takes a couple of longish bathroom breaks in Pulp Fiction.

Lots if it's just a mention of pooping. Not so much if you're looking for graphic depictions of defecation.

MC of the manga Air Gear does in an early chapter, and it's more than just mentioned. It might happen more, but I stopped reading there, sooooo

Billy Bob Thornton shares a wonderful poop plop in the Fargo TV series. If you haven't already watched it because it's a good show, at least watch it for that.

...there's this bit in Trainspotting, but I very actively regret reading that book, so cannot in all good conscience recommend it. But it does fit your criteria, OP.

I remember the love interest in Wicked (Fiyero? Fiero?) taking a shit, and then getting horrifically murdered while at it. God, that stuck with me. Maguire added more detail than what was probably necessary.

I know in the Sopranos they had one kid crap in the shower. I'm not sure if Jurassic Park counts, but I like to think the lawyer had the shit scared out of him.
