Re: Magic Possibilities

I've done something similar with physics.

Seconding the anon suggesting geometry. And maybe research numerology and sacred geometry? A lot of cultures already have mystic qualities attached to certain geometric shapes, numbers, and other mathematical properties (i.e. Gematria, Magic Squares, Kabbalah Mathematics, etc.) Also just look at regular ol' systems of mysticism and magic and see if they have any numeric properties or values attached (i.e. Runes, Tarot, etc.)

Along with sacred geometry, also take a look at astrology and astronomy. Astronomy is already a very mathematical field, one that most ancient cultures practiced in some form. Connect that to magic and you get astrology. Branch out and look at other astrological systems, as well as various ancient calendars (ancient Aztec wheel calendars are fascinating in this regard).

ETA: wanted to add, try looking up recreational math and ancient mathematics. Take a Wikiwalk from those points, you might get some good ideas. :)
