Re: Worldbuilding?
Re: Worldbuilding?
The other thing that comes up is the issue of religion in the wizarding world, which is quite reasonably minimal in a canon set in the 1990s- pretty much just celebrating Christmas, which many secular people do. But it can't be minimal in a medieval setting, because the church is one of the main centers of any community. And what is the church's role in the persecution of witches, even if those witches are also part of that church community?
This also ties in later in the 19th century stuff, where we wind up with certain High Anglican pureblood families and this tying into their prejudice against the Patil siblings who have recently emigrated to England (they're indisputably purebloods-- and Hindu). Since at the time of my writing it, not much was known about Phineas Nigellus Black aside from his being a HW Headmaster and a Slytherin, I had him as Headmaster in 1857 (the official Black family tree proves he was actually a student in the 1850s!) with a Ravenclaw nephew who is also a teacher. I figured this character, Sylvester Black, would be one of the black-sheep Blacks who got burned out of the tapestry at Grimmauld Place for supporting the Patils and Muggle-borns.
