What are some examples

[personal profile] lunabee34 2014-08-14 12:02 am (UTC)(link)
of heroes letting the villain get away to kill again besides Batman and the Joker?

I am brain dead right now, and I can't decide how I feel about this without some examples to think about.

Well, there's Superman and Lex Luthor. Though he has a different issue IMO, in that he literally is an alien, and him killing a human being could cause issues for him, especially given that his modus operendi is so different from Batman's: he doesn't want people to be afraid of him.

That's a good point.

Also I would imagine that Ma and Pa Kent drilled it into young Clark's head about being careful and not hurting anyone with his powers. A young child with super strength could do a lot of damage when he doesn't realize just how strong he is and that no one else has the powers he does.

There is Judge Dredd, despite being a fascist cop, he keeps sending habitual perps to the iso-cubes if they surrender or are taken alive, instead of executing them. He just won't do anything other than what the law prescribes.

Is Judge Dredd a robot or a human being?

I keep getting him mixed up with Robo-Cop in my mind.

He's human. He just doesn't act like he is most of the time.

Heee. Thanks for the info.

It's not a superhero example, but it's pretty much the entire plot of Once Upon a Time.

Snow White and Prince Charming capture the Evil Queen who is murdering all kinds of people and plan to execute her until Snow has an attack of conscience and lets her go.

To no one's surprise but Snow's, the queen continues to rape, murder, torture, and kidnap her way up and down the countryside, culminating in unleashing a Dark Curse that does away with all happy endings.

Later they catch her again, let her go with a slap on the wrist, and she continues to plot (and occasionally succeed at) murder.

There is a reason that most of fandom considers the Charming clan morons.

They aren't as bad as the other Charmings clan, who let their evil queen live in their own attic.

Okay, yeah.

Described in that way, I think they should have axed her the second time they caught her.

Considering that I quite liked some of her victims, I would have preferred it if they axed her the first time.

it's pretty much the entire plot of Once Upon a Time.

It's the entire plot in that it's repeatedly questioned whether that's the right thing to do. What about Snow killing Regina's mother or Gold offing the wicked witch?

Snow would be a moron if she was someone created in the real world and not in the alternate fantasy universe where everything works by fairy tale rules and Snow White is good because that's who Snow White is.

I'm sure that makes Graham feel much better. Oh wait. He's dead.

Killing Cora is the only intelligent thing Snow has done in three seasons, and Gold was absolutely right in taking out Zelena. Letting villains live on this show does nothing but come back to bite the merciful in the ass.
