That sounds interesting. I do like the birth order one and I would like to experiment with the idea that birth order can shape things about a person and their magic and how it is.

Maybe the more numbers you include in your equation, the stronger the power is?

I like this idea. I may use it.

Yeah! And you can always make up your own meanings, there's nothing that says that the thirteenth child has to be unlucky in your fantasy world! :D

One of the interesting things about this would be, what does more numbers actually mean? i.e. what do negative numbers mean in relation to positive ones? Are a negative and positive number (i.e. -13 and 13) a pair of opposite values, or are they variations of an absolute number (i.e. the assigned value of -13 and +13 being variations of |13|). Either way, would more numbers always mean building on each other, or can they cancel each other out, creating a situation where a "spell"/equation with lots of numbers turns out to be less powerful than one with only a few, because those numbers cancel each other out somehow and reduce power?

And just because I like to throw a wrench into these things: what are the parameters of birth order - two people born of the same set of parents, or even just one particular parent? Because what if between child #3 and #4, one of the parents had an affair that resulted in a pregnancy. Would that make the next kid child #4, or #5? Just something to keep in mind while building a magical system. ;P
