I admit it's been a while since I read the books but I don't understand what makes Arianne such a special and wank-deserving character. The Dornish are dull at the best of times and Arianne's attempted coup could be carried out by plenty of other characters with no meaningful loss to the story. Am I supposed to be upset at the decision just because she's female?

Mostly symbolic - it's nice to see a storyline where women aren't treated like shit just for being women* and can inherit in their own right. That's Ariane.

*As opposed to everyone having terrible things happen to them just for existing. At least that's fair.

Well, personally I find the Dornish storyline incredibly dull and I don't give a damn about Arianne. But I'm still bothered that they cut her out because it's yet another example of the show runners making completely pointless changes for no apparent reason. It's not like Trystane is a more interesting, more complex character or anything. It's not like this storyline is improved by focusing on Trystane rather than on Arianne. There is literally no good reason to replace Arianne's role with Trystane. I'm not upset because of Arianne herself, but I am upset because this just shows again that the people running this show don't give a damn about the books and just do whatever they want because they feel like it. And while in this case it doesn't concern a character I like, a lot of the time they mess with characters I DO like.

They probably did it to add in a romance plot for Myrcella. If Quentin is rolled into Trystane's character too then that could be very interesting - an agonzing choice at the end of the series: does he follow his heart and stay with Myrcella or obey his father and go to Daenerys?

but I am upset because this just shows again that the people running this show don't give a damn about the books

I admit this doesn't bother me. I feel that S4 suffered when it tried to recreate book scenes no longer quite worked in the context of the show. Shae is a good example. I loved Sansa's new direction, though. I'm happy for the show to start doing its own thing.

Jesus, yes, the Shae thing.

I am tired of the rapey-ness of the show. In some ways I feel that if they cut Arianne it would be a good thing, because she's just a Latina seductress stereotype.

Huh. Maybe I should post that as a fandom secret!
