Paid leave? Most regular people who are accused of drugs crimes have their career destroyed. Not convicted, just accused. The lives destroyed by these riots and protests will almost certainly be those of the rioters and protestors, not the cop who actually put 10 bullets in an innocent kid for no reason.

In the rare instance of a cop actually being charged with murder, conviction is incredibly hard. (Yes, it's a very biased source, but the stats come from an actual organization that investigates these things.)
