Most of the characters I see who pay lipservice to thinking killing is wrong are willing to give in and do it pretty quickly.

Have you read Trigun? The manga is pretty much all about exploring the idea of pacifism, and the main character takes his pacifism really seriously (at great cost). The manga goes into it rather more deeply than the anime, though the anime is nice. It's a great read, too~

Also Rurouni Kenshin, though it does let the hero get away with not making the hard decisions.

Have you ever read Rurouni Kenshi at all?

"Hard decisions" are not automatically the *right* decisions, you know.
