I thought Homestuck was about kids playing a virtual reality video game where dying in-game perma kills an avatar. And also that Midnight Crew was a separate comic unrelated to this video game thing.

I assumed Teen Wolf was about Stiles, a teenage werewolf, and his grizzly human mentor, Derek. I didn't know what Stiles looked like, so I assumed Scott was the Stiles up until they were properly introduced.

And I remember when I thought Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney was some kind of Leisure Suit Larry dating sim with shitty lawyering mini games.
