Internationally, for football the fanbase tends to be a mix depending on the league/club. Still predominantly male, but not overwhelmingly middle-aged. Lots of people younger than me in some forums.

With respect to pro sports in North America, the majority of football, basketball, baseball, hockey, and racing fans are all middle-aged (or over) and male. The only things that aren't are soccer - though the bulk of soccer fans are still over 35 - and UFC because they're trendy right now. They're still male dominated as hell though, especially UFC.
