Okay. So, I think the key is to look for equations that kind of relate to each of those things. I think geometry-based math would be great for locking creatures away. For example, you could use the Pythagorean theorem to create a triangular prison, and c = 2πr to create a circular prison. Something similar could be used for defensive magic.

Earlier, I mentioned imaginary numbers in regards to chaos magic, but I think they might be good for conjuring/summoning in general, and quantum mechanics might actually be better for the chaos side of things.

Physics-based math would be great for offensive magic, because with it, you could screw with gravity, you could hurl projectiles, you could drain and confer energy, etc. Differential equations might be really helpful here.

And for changing form, my instincts scream "algebra," simply because you can prove a lot of bizarre things with the creative application of algebra.

Is it bad that my first thought was "or Algebra can be used for location spells, because you're always trying to find X without knowing Y"?

...I blame the Internet for inundating me with math puns. :P

ETA: Jaybie, for a brief example of what kind of "creative algebra" Potato is talking about:

If x = 1 and y = 1
Then 2(x2 - y2) = 0
And 5(x – y) = 0
Which is to say, 2(x2 - y2) = 5(x – y)
Now divide each side of this equation by (x-y): [2(x2 - y2) = 5(x – y)] / (x – y)
Which comes to 2(x + y) = 5
But (x + y) = (1 + 1)
Which means that 2*2 = 5.

(You can thank Lewis Carroll for that one).

Haha! Puns aside, that's...actually a really good point. >.<

(Also, that made the joke "I wish I were DNA helicase so I could unzip your genes" pop into my head)

That is a wonderfully terrible pick-up line that I totally plan to use on my boyfriend next time I see him.
