It's more like only 10 years, but I know what you mean. I do however like the idea that to fancy gown she wears in the Orlesian court stays there and she changes into something much more suited to the outdoors when needed.

That's true, her swimming around in that dress while adventuring would have been ridiculous and totally unlike her. She probably hates that thing, lol.

I read somewhere that the style of the dress is fancy enough to not be out of place but with enough notable differences to current fashions to be a slap in the face of pompous nobles. I don't know which details are meant to be contrary, but I suppose if we get to see a scene in the imperial palace we'll be able to try figure it out for ourselves.

Interestingly, it also fits in with the description Leliana once made of a dress she'd love to see Morrigan in, in a random banter that I got just this morning while running around Redcliffe. Dark red velvet, lace, a low neckline to show off her assets. Morrigan was a bit disturbed by her staring.

I wouldn't be surprised if one's fashion could be used as a weapon that way in Orlais. Just wearing your hat at a certain angle and you can insult your host without being outright enough to justify them kicking you out. And oh, yeah, I love that parallel. If Leliana makes a comment about Morrigan's dress in that vein, I would be delighted.
