Spending splurges

(Anonymous) 2014-08-14 11:26 pm (UTC)(link)
So recently I got pet rats and spent about $200 in pet supplies. I wanted a good quality cage with plenty of room, but I'm feeling guilty it all cost so much. Tell me about any big purchases you've had recently or if you're saving money instead.

At least it was for your pets!

I'm mostly saving because I'm low on cash, but I'm mildly "splurging" on my mom's birthday presents, because I don't want it to be completely shabby because I'm broke.

Hey, I really don't think you should feel guilty about that! If you have pets, you should want to get the best for them. So that's a good thing; it means you're a responsible and good owner :3b

Text books. Argh.

It's weird, I definitely have money to splurge on something, and possibly have another large infusion of money coming that won't be really tied into things like bills or insurance, but I don't know what I would want to get and I'm also not really saving this money per se, it's just sitting in a bank account.

Who's the lucky person you're getting betrothed to?

I'm debating whether or not I want to put down for the monthly installments for the Rocket and Groot set through Sideshow Collectibles.

It's about $350-odd, but they give you the option of paying for it in monthly installments after making a down payment. I like that's it's split up into 6 months, but part of me is really hesitant to spend that much money (even if it's in increments over time).

Mind you, I also have anxiety attacks when buying groceries and cheap t-shirts (I wish I was kidding), so... there you go. =T

That is a lot of money for a statue, but it's a damn spectacular statue. Sideshow always have beautiful works; the detail is incredible.

(Now I want it, but I can't. God, if only.)

It's a fucking beautiful statue, I love all of the Hot Toy's models, it is expensive but it's so lovely. The Gamora one is also amazing.

(I've got the Cap and Winter Soldier ones on pre-oder but damn Gamora is tempting).

Rats are awesome and they deserve awesome things and you are awesome for giving them awesome things. <3

I keep spending money on other people but am reluctant to spend it on myself. It's weird. Gonna buy me some concert tickets pretty soon, though!

An upgrade in my cable package so I can be able to watch the Doctor Who S8 premiere in the next couple of weeks.

I splurged and bought steak for my family tonight to celebrate my new job, but I'm saving pennies on the side because I'm going REALLY splurge in a few months and go to Wizarding World :D

Don't feel guilty! A lot of "average" size cages are actually WAY too small. Most animal cages are actually designed for transport of animals, but for whatever reason people turned them into permanent homes, instead.

This should make you feel better about your splurge:

But, to continue in sticking to the spirit of the question/thread:

I recently spent way more than I'd intended to on a movie date with my boyfriend, and then went and spent a ridiculous amount of money on nice pens, index cards, and card holders.

...most people impulse buy clothes, or candy. I impulse buy office supplies. *shrugs* I'm probably going to go splurge on books, next payday, if there's enough extra in my paycheck. And possibly even if there isn't.

Rats are an awesome reason to splurge.

I'm going to splurge on food next week because the rest of my family is going out of town for four days and I'm cooking all the fancy things I love and they won't eat.

I've probably spent $2500 going to conventions this year. So far.

Next year will be worse.

rats are great! they're so cute. my roommate has two right now, but she's had lots over the few years we've lived together. don't feel bad, your rats will be a lot happier with lots of room to move around and climb places. my roommate spends quite a bit on making her own food out of stuff from the bulk food store so they get to eat well. more expensive than regular stuff from the pet store, but they're happier and healthier

i bought a kayak a little while back, not something i thought i'd ever get, but it's a lot of fun

I got a cat a few weeks ago, so you're not alone! Pet supplies cost a lot, but you're giving animals a good home.

RAM for my computer. I underspecced the ram on this build, which wasn't generally a problem but the times it did hit swap were painful.

And a meal out at a local craft brew bar.

Big purchases? $700 on review books, $500 on a review course and $365 to take this exam I need for my future career. This will be interesting.

But splurges? I think I've spent over $100 on fancy chocolates in the last month because they are so yummy.

I'm two paychecks away from getting the camera and lens I've been saving for since last year. I'm very excited, but also starting to panic slightly about spending so much money. Other than my car, it's the most I've ever spent on something.
