Eye issue

(Anonymous) 2014-08-14 11:30 pm (UTC)(link)
So, I'm having this issue, and yes I'm going to go to the eye doctor, but I'm curious if anybody has heard of anything like this, knows if there's a name or a better way to describe it:

Sometimes, instead of just seeing the world like it's one big thing, it's like my eyes don't want to work together and what's in the side/peripheral view gets shunted off straight to center-vision. One very scary moment involved it looking like a car was coming straight at me when really it was in its own lane, and I was in mine. If I close one eye (either eye) my vision is fine.

I notice it mainly only happens if I've been reading without my glasses (for some reason, it's just easier that way. I could have a two-week old prescription, and the page still looks brighter and the text crisper if I go without and bring things close), and then mostly on distance viewing. So, I guess it could also be that I'm not looking away from the computer screen enough.

IDK. I had a flash of insight while typing this, and googled "inverse tunnel vision" and the only thing that really came up was this (http://www.skynetmd.com/skymain_search.cfm?recid=36030) from skynetMD, which may be a real place, unrelated to a Terminator future, but nope. Nope nope nope.

IANAD, but this sounds maybe a little like strabismus/lazy eye? Has anybody else seen you when this is happening, and would be able to tell you if your eyes were pointing in the same direction? Is it always one side's vision that replaces your binocular vision?

I feel like it's my left eye vision that shifts over more than my right, but the phenomenon is not exclusive to that eye. I just get super paranoid and anxious about vision things, because going blind is like my worst nightmare. I'd rather lose taste, smell and hearing COMBINED than lose my sight.

SA, alsi thanks. That's an interesting theory that I will look into.
