I feel like most GOT shippers are delusional. And what do they expect? For him to be like "Oh yeah, incest is great. They should totally get married and have more crazy murderous children together."

I think that's exactly what they expect, and when that doesn't happen, they just twist his words to make it sound as though he's pro Jaime/Cersei. For example, Nikolaj recently did an interview at SDCC where he asked whether or not Jaime might have feelings for Brienne. His answer was something along the lines of "there might be something there, but at the moment, Jaime still loves his sister, so he's gotta move on from that first". J/C shippers then reduced this answer to just "No. He loves Cersei". Personally, I don't understand why they place so much importance on whether or not the actor ships it.

I honestly just find it a bit creepy, and at the least feel second-hand embarrassment when fans try to figure out who celebrities ship their character with.

Oh God yes!

Can we stop asking celebs about shipping yet? And basing some portion of our enjoyment of ships on what they feel?

So, I don't particularly care whether actors do or don't, but I think there's a couple of things to consider:

1. Knowing who they think their character is romantically interested in can lead you to see interactions with them in a new light. Even if they're not being written as a couple, one actor portraying the character as if they are is a different can of worms.
2. Some actors have fun and support certain pairings. Doesn't the actress who plays Molly from Sherlock ship her character with Sherlock?

But, overall, I think it's a net loss for actors to be asked. It's annoying, it doesn't get used productively for conversation, it makes people have crazy expectations of the writing and the actor, and it adds to drama.

I agree that people should stop harassing actors about shipping (or caring how actors feel about certain ships)...but I'm sort of curious about these SDCC photos with Gwen Christie now (Jaime/Brienne all the way!). Ahem.

I'll be honest - they weren't much of a thing. She had just as many photos with Pedro Pascal and they looked like they were more abandoned fun than her photos with NCW.

Who the fuck cares whether he ships Jaime/Cersei or not? Like, even if I ever cared about an actor's opinion on that sort of thing, I definitely would have stopped caring about his when he defended that Jaime/Cersei rape scene on the show and said that it wasn't rape. yeaaaaah, right.

You have a point.

I know this isn't what he said, but do you think it's fair for an actor to say "this scene was intended to show X but instead the way it was shot and such made it seem like Y" or even going so far as to say "I know it looks like X, but factually it was written to be Y, so it's Y".

For instance, that Peter Pan live action movie from like 2006 had a bunch of WAY uncomfortable scenes with Hook and Wendy. Apparently the actor recognized how creepy it was, but the directors didn't. Is it fair for them to say "well, he's not being a creeper", since they didn't intend to direct it that way? I think it's fair. Whether or not it matters to what we actually see is separate.

That said, what was portrayed in the show was rape, I'm not sure why anyone thought it would be different.

Not a GOT fan, but how are the shippers delusional when the pairing is canon? Where does "delusional" factor in here?

They're delusional if they insist on believing that the actor ships it when he clearly doesn't.
