It's nice to have a single filter if you're dealing with a huge multiracial cast, like in Doctor Who or the Marvel universe, where looking for individual characters one-by-one would be a hassle. Or if you want to find small/lesser-known fandoms, where maybe you've never heard of the series, but you're looking for more media with nonwhite people.
And, different issue but the same general idea, when bookmarking stuff I have a general f/f tag -- but not one for f/m or m/m. It's not about othering people like me, it's about wanting to make it easier for other fans who like f/f as a general thing to find these stories and these series.
