just going to copy/paste since no one on here has ever seen an episode of COPS or anything

(Anonymous) 2014-08-16 12:44 am (UTC)(link)
That doesn't matter you moron. Brown KNEW he just robbed someone. He had no idea the cop didn't know. All he knew was he just robbed someone and now a cop was stopping him. He would have automatically thought he was being stopped for the robbery. And obviously, he has no problem being violent (as seen by the robbery footage).

Do you have any idea how common it is for criminals to overreact to routine stops because they know they have committed a crime/have warrants? Shit, that was how Ted Bundy was caught!

Keep ignoring that we're questioning the cop's actions, not Brown's. No one's arguing that criminals are in the wrong and may be on edge after committing a crime, but what happened isn't even certain. You don't KNOW what Brown was thinking, but hey, you watched Cops.

The police report on the robbery uses vague language and very little has been revealed about what words were actually exchanged during the incident at the store.

Well, no. I worked as a police/fire/ambulance dispatcher for 3 years. Now let's think. You just robbed and assaulted someone. You are pumped with adrenaline (unless Brown is a sociopath he is pumped up with adrenaline). Suddenly a cop pulls over to you and tells you to stop. Now, what are you going to think? Maybe that that cop is looking for the suspect who matches your description.

The cop didn't even yell at him to stop. He yelled "GET THE FUCK ON THE SIDEWALK."

And ok, since we've bypassed the whole 'innocent until proven guilty' thing and are so sure we know what Brown was thinking, lets assume he did lunge at the cop instead of running away. By the point a shot has been fired near/within the police car, Brown started running away, and this is when the cop starts shooting. After hitting him once, he doesn't stop.

It's shittastic that people have decided to focus on an incident that at most explains why there might have been a scuffle in the beginning, and ignoring the cop who shot at and killed an unarmed person more than once.

They're trying to make it a racial thing. Funny how cops shot and killed a twenty year old white guy for resisting arrest, yet no one is talking about it.

Perhaps there's more faith in the justice system punishing the officer involved in one case than the other.

There was a legitimate report by a third party about someone with a hand gun. The cops in that case were aware of that. I'm still going to say it's tragic that the boy died and I hope they handle his investigation better than Brown's. I'm also going to say that it's sick you want to use this boy's death as fodder for arguing against legitimate concerns about racial profiling.

It's sick that you're trying to say it's racial profiling when the dead guy was a violent criminal.

It's pretty sick that you're using a teenager's death as an opportunity to troll.

You have a strange dichotomy between criminals (e.g. a kid committing a petty crime) and the police where you assume that police = "good" and criminal = "bad". Even when describing Brown's actions you've used words like "Bundy" and "sociopath" when those things aren't even relevant.

Re: just going to copy/paste since no one on here has ever seen an episode of COPS or anything

(Anonymous) 2014-08-16 01:59 am (UTC)(link)
Because of this dichotomy, you can only frame Brown's actions to be in the wrong, and the cop's to be in the right. But this dichotomy is just not how the real world works and can lead to really foolish thinking.

I think that anon doesn't want to admit the possibility that the cop could be in the wrong (for whatever reason because seriously cops can do some really shitty things).

NAYRT. Half the people on both sides seem to be holding to their preconceived notions. Cops can do really shitty things, because they're people, and people in general can do really shitty things. So that really doesn't clear anything up.

Of course that doesn't clear anything up. I was commenting on the anon who can't seem to even consider the possibility that the cop might have been in the wrong.

Yes, I see what you mean - sorry, I'm just getting tired of all the back and forth. Time to get off the internet for a while.
