I know basically nothing of Hunger Games but the one thing that has tempted me to read the books was someone's random observation about people's opinion of Haymitch after seeing the first movie vs. having read the books. One of those "Most everyone seems to think [x] but really now, if they read between the lines they'd realize there's more to it" type things.

And the combination of the appearance of [x] and what was implied to be the "more to it" made me immediately go "...Oh. So basically, he's one of mine. And presumably really good at it."

One of those characters that's an insta-love pretty much as soon as I see them, because they're particular combinations of tropes that I like okay independently but MASSIVELY when they're mashed together.

(My girlfriend uses the "one of mine" terminology for that sort of thing, extending to even real people - like once she referred to a person we met that I hit it off with EXTREMELY well like "Yep, I definitely like her. She's not one of mine, but I totally approve of her being one of yours.")
