Srsly?

If you see someone driving a company vehicle, and they're texting, should you report it even if they didn't necessarily put you at any sort of risk?

Re: Srsly?

(Anonymous) 2014-08-16 02:47 am (UTC)(link)
I would. They might not have put you at risk, but they've probably put other people at risk, and they've definitely put company property at risk.

Yes, you absolutely should. Just because nothing happened on that day, it doesn't mean they should get away with irresponsible driving. I've had friends get into serious accidents because someone else was texting and it's not something anyone should do, ever.

(Anonymous) 2014-08-16 02:52 am (UTC)(link)
It's not your business to decide whether or not they're a responsible driver. Let it be.

Re: Srsly?

(Anonymous) 2014-08-16 02:55 am (UTC)(link)
Bullshit. Irresponsible driving is other peoples' business, because irresponsible drivers cause accidents.

if you saw them drinking alcohol while driving, would you feel the same?

don't text and drive, yeesh.

Re: Srsly?

There's "irresponsible" in the sense of "puts themselves at risk by not wearing their seat belt" and then there's "irresponsible" in the sense of "engages in distracted driving behaviors that could get other people killed." The latter is everybody's business.

Re: Srsly?

Distracted driving causes thousands of deaths and many thousands more injuries every year. It's absolutely someone's business if they see some dumbass doing something that puts lives at risk.

Don't be ridiculous. By your reasoning, we also shouldn't report drunk drivers, parents beating their children in public, animals kept in disgusting conditions or a whole host of other things that aren't our business.

Re: Srsly?

(Anonymous) 2014-08-16 09:29 am (UTC)(link)
Except I'm sharing the road with them so it kinda is.

Re: Srsly?

(Anonymous) 2014-08-16 07:21 pm (UTC)(link)
Lemme guess, you text while driving, amirite?

Re: Srsly?

(Anonymous) 2014-08-16 03:05 am (UTC)(link)
Definitely. Texting while driving is tremendously reckless (and illegal, in many jurisdictions) behavior, whether or not the driver caused an accident this time. If you'd report the driver, for drinking a beer behind the wheel, you should report them for texting behind the wheel.

Re: Srsly?

(Anonymous) 2014-08-16 04:11 am (UTC)(link)
Texting is distracted driving, which puts everyone around them at risk. How do you not know this? I've seen people plow through concrete median barriers because they were distracted--if you can see them, you're at risk.

Re: Srsly?

(Anonymous) 2014-08-16 04:26 am (UTC)(link)
Yes. It really should become unacceptable in the same way drunk driving is unacceptable.

Speaking of texting while driving, everyone here has already seen Werner Herzog's PSA / short film, right?

Um, maybe? Depends if I'm the one driving and how much time I have on my hands. I dunno. I tend not to call strangers unless I have to.

Yes!

[personal profile] raspberryrain 2014-08-16 04:58 am (UTC)(link)
Of course you should.

Um, hell yeah. They're putting everyone at risk by texting and driving. I will be reporting them to the non-emergency police line then making a complaint to the company.

(Anonymous) 2014-08-16 11:57 am (UTC)(link)
Considering it's against the law to text while driving where I live, yes, I'd report it.
