I was wondering that too. I wrote for a fandom where the characters' ethnicity is relevant to the story but I felt that tagging it was...a bit weird? Because anyone reading in that fandom would expect characters of colour to be the main characters and know what they looked like already.

But then I wondered if there weren't people who searched by tags looking for any fic that wasn't two white guys fucking, regardless of fandom. AO3 can be a pasty place.

In the end I decided to go with not, because it reminded me too much of the days when people warned for slash, but I can understand the arguments for tagging as well.
