I don't have time to watch every episode of The Walking Dead because I need to know what blood type Carl and Rick have. Wikis make finding general information easier. But hey, if you are writing a research paper on themes of The Walking Dead, try and find more scholarly/direct sources.

I find it really irritating when people use drop shadows instead of just outlining text...

You can't remember everything from watching a show. But everything that differs slightly upon interpretation is pretty useless.

I can relate, and particularly to the example you chose. The TVtropes page is full of fanon and misinterpretation that you'd have a hard time recognizing the canon if you went there first.

Never trust a wiki of any sort. ANYONE can edit that shit.

The Kitiwiki APH wikia sources pretty well though. I've yet to find a 'fact' on there that is false.

I would avoid pulling stuff from the relationships sections as those can be a bit more subjective, but otherwise if it's a 'fact' it tends to be correct.

I became an editor to the KitaWiki because the descriptions of Ukraine and Russia's relationship pissed me off so much (and this was well before the conflicts with the government protests and Crimean occupation, mind you)

I guess what used to be there was a valid interpretation, since they are usually depicted as fluffy siblings and yes, a lot of Ukraine's appearances are in the anime-based material which depicts Ukraine as being super obsessed with her little brother...

Nevertheless. Himaruya clearly acknowledged that Russia and Ukraine have serious issues with each other and there needed to be more interpretations beyond "bubblegum sweet with incestuous subtext" at the time.

Ugh yeah. You can thank the anime for adding the cutesy incestuous subtext via the Counting Sheep CD and the Carrot and Stick image song. There's zero of that in the original, and much of her interaction isn't even with Russia (and the interaction that does exist, past their childhood, is sort of awkward. Like she obviously does care about him, but it's tense). I really, really dislike what the anime did with Ukraine.

Oh yeah, I feel you. But I also feel that sometimes fandom gets their head up their asses so far, they end up misinterpreting canon/making out fanons and the completely neglect canon anyway, wiki or no wiki. They might as well create their own canon, anyway. /Looking atcha 2P

I agree, and this coming from the owner of a very active wiki. The wiki of my other main fandom is absolutely ridden with headcanons and interpretations I don't agree with, as if they were canon, and it pains me to even look at it.

With Hetalia in particular there's the problem that the canon is so all over the place. It can be really bothersome to try to find a certain strip or character note, and a lot of people aren't even aware that they exist and won't look for them. Every now and then, I'm still surprised by "new" canon details about about my favourite character when someone on Tumblr reblogs a sketch from 2009 that I've never seen before. It's so much more convenient to head to a wiki where everything is in one place, even if it comes with the danger of misinformation.
