I assume Bronies are creeps. Male anime fans can be pretty goddamn creepy too.

I honestly find female Bronies just as creepy as male Bronies. And I even understand enjoying the show casually, but hardcore fangirling over it weirds me out, and every real life female fan I've met has been a breathing stereotype.

Tbh, almost all my run in with bronies have been with adult female fans and they've all been super vocal about it. The one dude I found out about (he was a coworker) kept it on the down low and was decent enough.

Also, I'm pretty big into anime, but the fans are definitely a mixed bag. They're either really embarrassing and awkward or pretty chill and open-minded.

lol my experience, too. irl maybe I just don't hang out with enough geeky guys, but the lone bronie I met was "normal" enough, just this side of eccentric. he like, showered daily and didn't masturbate to pony action figures (as far as I knew, anyway). but (almost) all the female bronies I met have been obnoxious and creepy.

The real creepy ones are the adult female My Little Pony collectors who can't grasp that they're not the target audience anymore.

Those sound like the ones who hate male bronies because they "appropriated" the show from "women."

Yeah

My little sister is like eleven and a fan of the show, and when we were hanging out I told her about the "bronies are stealing MLP from little girls" argument. Just to see how she would react.

She looked at me with this "waaaaaaaaaaat???" look. She couldn't believe it.

No, most of these don't care about the show at all, and frequently get bitchy about people wanting show-accurate figures. They hate bronies for appropriating the toys. Because it's somehow their fault that the toy line is focused on the Mane Six, and that the blind bags have more variety than the brushable figures.

Omg, are you talking about cuteosphere?

Never having grown up and acting like a womanchild, or sexually fetishizing a show aimed at young girls?

...That's a tough one to pick. Because of the sexual element, I'm going with male bronies being the worser of the two.

Re: Your "stereotypes" about other fandoms

(Anonymous) 2014-08-16 11:39 pm (UTC)(link)
I really don't get the sexually fetishizing a show meant for little girls argument or at least how it's only been aimed at bronies. Like, I get being uncomfortable with it, but it happens in every fandom every (see Pokémon or Disney) and is kept fairly separate from the other aspects of the fandom.

If your argument is 'it doesn't happen', then I call bullshit.

Two minutes on google with safe search off should be more than enough time to show you the horror.

Speaking only from my own experience in the collector side, most of us--even the hardcore fans--have long been aware that we aren't the target audience and haven't been since we each hit middle school. That's not why we dislike bronies. Many of us are just sick of the sort of hardcore bronies who not only act like they're the primary audience instead of kids, but like they should have been all along because obviously anything that doesn't pander directly to them is shit. Also, the hypocritical misogynistic and homophobic attitudes that many of them have is somewhat grating. "G3 is for fags!" "Rarity deserves to be raped for leading Spike on!" "Of course FiM meant for us, it's too good to be a girls' show." Also, the constant shitfits whenever anything in the series/merch contradicts their headcanons or doesn't cater to them (okay, so that bit also applies to half of tumblr fandom in general, but still) gets kind of old.

Male anime fans are okay on my radar until I find out they love Sword Art Online, Code Geass, Rei Ayanami, or anything else specific that pings me as creepy. Sometimes I don't know it pings me as creepy until the guy mentions liking it (Code Geass is one like that).

Re: Your "stereotypes" about other fandoms

(Anonymous) 2014-08-16 11:51 pm (UTC)(link)
How does someone liking Code Geass ping them as creepy to you?

I was going ask that too. Haven't watched it myself, but the biggest fan I know irl is a girl.

It just seemed out of place next to SAO. I don't remember anything too creepy about it. And yeah, it has a huge fujoshi fanbase.

The Nina/table scene (almost everything about Nina, actually) and Euphie's brainwashing etc. were the main things I found too creepy.

I don't know, it's not the worst show, but it's got enough fanservice and schlock to put me off any guy who loves it that much. I don't have any problem with female fans.

...you sound like a more shallow and disturbed person than a boy who likes sword art online...

I'm curious about where you're getting "disturbed" from.

Nope. SAO was garbage. Interesting premise, but horrible execution, and it's inferior to both .hack//SIGN and Log Horizon (even though they're far from perfect too).

Re: Your "stereotypes" about other fandoms

(Anonymous) 2014-08-17 03:43 am (UTC)(link)
I'd argue the first half was a decent enough action/adventure romp, if not a little harem-y and with some asspulling. It's the second half where everything falls aparts.

And can't comment on the new arc.

Re: Your "stereotypes" about other fandoms

(Anonymous) 2014-08-17 03:50 am (UTC)(link)
...okay? I agree that it has an interesting premise and horrible execution. I was massively disappointed with the show. but unlike you, I don't assume everyone who likes it (and there are a lot of people who do) are creepy sexual deviants or something. like, it's pretty weird that you make that assumption. and even more about code geass, which isn't even remotely harem.
