Most recently, Kill La Kill. I had heard it recommended numerous times and touted as something brilliant. I watched the first episode and honestly thought I had gotten the wrong anime. It was probably among the stupidest animes I had ever seen. There wasn't a single redeemable feature in it. Maybe you had to "keep watching" but even the premise was so dumb, I just couldn't bother.

The first episode put me off the show too. I tend to not like first episodes, though, so maybe I should keep watching, but I kinda doubt the obnoxiousness of it will lessen. There was not a single moment that wasn't filled with dialogue, like everyone had to comment on everything or plainly state their thoughts, and it had an epileptic feeling to it that I couldn't stand.

This was my exact reaction to watching Kill la Kill, I didn't even make it all the way through the first episode. I'll usually give an anime two episodes before I decide to drop it, but I disliked this so actively I didn't bother.

i think i stuck with this anime mostly because of what a trainwreck it seemed like it was going to be--plus it was refreshing to watch something that was a self-aware stupid parody of itself and completely not taking anything seriously. somewhere along the way i actually got invested in the characters (???) and ended up with a ton of friendship feelings near the end.

i don't know if i would call it "brilliant" but i think it's enjoyable if you come in with really low expectations, lol
