Re: Popular fandoms whose hype you don't understand

Seiyuu, and to a lesser extent, actors in general. I can't understand being such a big fan of somebody's voice that you'd watch something just to hear it. I'm more of a visual person so I can understand it more with actors, because you get to see and hear them, but sitting through something for no other reason than to see an actor you like is still kind of a weird concept for me.

Hmm, as a fan of both seiyuu and actors, for me it's more like...I'll see that one of my favorites is in something, so I'll watch it, and be introduced to something new and awesome that I wouldn't normally see otherwise. That could just be me, though!

I understand that. I'm thinking of fans who watch things they admit they'd have no interest in if it weren't for certain seiyuu/actors. Who say things like "(Show/movie) looks terrible, but (actor/seiyuu) is going to be in it, so I have to watch it/maybe it'll be worth it."

Ooh, okay, that makes sense. I don't really understand that either, but maybe there's hope that they'll get something more than just their favorite out of it.

Same! Oh my God. More power to them and all that, but I'll never understand at all.

Also kind of the opposite, but judging an anime based on it's Seiyuu. "Oh I don't like those Seiyuu"/ "That Seiyuu did some things in RL and had a scandal"/"I've never heard of those Seiyuu before" = "so I'm not going to watch it even if I might have liked it regardless."
