I know the feeling, OP. My heart can't take it.

....

Is that David Tennant in that pic?

No, I'm pretty sure that's Pewdiepie, a stupidly popular LPer.

(Anonymous) 2014-08-20 11:30 pm (UTC)(link)
Looks a lot like Tennant though.

haha, I don't mind him that much.

Perfect correction.

LOL I gotta say that comment just made my day. I know you didn't intend it to be funny, but the comparison is funny since Pewds is a Swedish Let's Player who couldn't be further from Tennant. Thanks, anon :)

I think I've ruined horror for myself by absorbing so much horror media. Very little actually scares me anymore. :(

I love scary stuff and I hate jump scares. I wish people would stop confusing scary and startling. I get startled easily but that's not what I'm looking for when I watch a horror movie.

I'm the exact same way. And I always enjoy a horror movie better the second time around because I'm not so distracted by wondering when something/someone is going to jump out at me.

Well, being scared and being startled are two different things. Jump-scares rely on a sudden rush of adrenaline to make you jump out of your chair, in a large part because you weren't expecting it. Scary movies (well okay, some scary movies) build up to it, letting you get accustomed to the ambience before trying to startle you.

I'm a little better about jumpscares now, since I can usually predict most of them from changes in music and atmosphere, so I turn down the volume and start peeking through my fingers, but sometimes they get me pretty badly, like some of the ones in Five Nights At Freddy's.

I hate jump scares, it always feels like I'm having a heart attack or something when I get startled (not that I know what that's like). I try my best to avoid them, and would probably watch a bit more horror if I knew I could. Although perhaps not, I'm also notoriously squeamish both visually and especially aurally. I do enjoy reading Wikipedia summaries of horror movies and tv series though, that works just fine. :~D
