There also seemed to be no female pilots at all, or Ravagers. I mean, I didn't expect there to be, given the way movies are made, but it would have been nice if they expended a little bit of effort.

That's because the pilots and Ravagers were cannon fodder, which is deeply socialized as a male thing. Men are SUPPOSED to be killed in the line of duty.

Well they did have Glenn Close as Nova Prime, the top of the Nova chain.

This. Compared to other films of its ilk, it was really progressive with women in powerful roles not related to their sex appeal. And yet, the SJWs are never sated.
