Seconding the above, plus Ishmael - timeslip to Washington State after the Civil War. It's by Barbara Hambly, who knows how to tell a good story.
First Frontier has a timeslip to the Cretaceous - sadly the plot doesn't stand up to the premise, which is awesome.
