Aw, poor Anders. I have never been able to bring myself to actually stab him in the back, even with my mage-hating!Hawke. Of course, said Hawke sided with the Templars so eventually Anders had to go down anyway.

After the patch you don't have to kill Anders when you side with the Templars. You can get him to join you.

I don't play it on the PC, so I'm pretty sure patches are ruled out. Also, Anders joining you to fight with the Templars really doesn't work for me as far as his story goes.

No, patches are for all platforms. I'm not sure how you install them on consoles, but I think I've heard your game is updated automatically on consoles.

As for the second point, fair enough. But you should know a rival Anders takes helping the templars as his penitence for losing control of Vengeance and hints at suicide afterward.

ive never killed him either. personally i didnt see much wrong with his actions (at the time i did but i thought about it long and hard and came to the conclusion that it didnt make a huge difference in how things inevitably would have gone down with the chantry anyway). the only thing that rubbed me the wrong way with that was the sudden position he put every mage in kirkwall in, without warning (understandable given the circumstances) or preparation. we know a lot of them, many who probably werent even fighting, ended up dying as a result. i think his timing was pretty rubbish and the execution could have gone better to spare more innocent lives. he seems to be under the impression that the ends justify the means there but i think that was more justice (the spirit rather) talking, and i dont consider justice to be fully good.

da

I loved Anders and hate backstabbing any of my companions in general. But in the case of Anders, why the heck would I kill him, I thought it was awesome that he blew up the stupid Chantry (and to be fair, only that horrible head priestess lady and a couple of priests are in the Chantry as far as "innocent" lives go, and they all did dick about stopping the conflict when they had a chance, and also sheltered that asshole lady who killed the qunari). You're right, though, the other mages didn't ask to be put in that position, but it kind of seemed like things would inevitably escalate even if Anders hadn't done anything. I also agree that "justice" isn't necessarily good - well, he kind of became "vengeance" after all. But yeah, I don't think things could really continue how they were, something was gonna snap, and we already know the Templars frequently abuse, rape and kill the mages in the Circle. It's just not a great place to be.

i forget who it was (maybe nobody) but it might have been anders that said that nobody in the chantry was truly innocent anyway, since they were all oppressors. and honestly i agree, not so much that i'm like YEAH KILL EM ALL but enough that i understand his actions and dont particularly think it was a bad or wrong choice, just one that should have been more polished. it seemed like he acted more on his emotions than someone who was looking for a strategic way to start a revolution or whatever.

honestly a lot of mages were already being needlessly and unjustly killed at the hand of templars so there probably wasnt a huge difference on that end. it just gets blood on anders' hands instead. he made it clear he thought it would help mages in the long run so he obviously saw it as justified.
