I associate him more strongly with Filch from Harry Potter.

(Anonymous) 2014-08-21 11:23 pm (UTC)(link)
He's an all-time great That Guy, imo. Just such a distinctive aura.

(Anonymous) 2014-08-21 11:45 pm (UTC)(link)
This.

Also, am I the only one who thinks Richard Sammel (Eichorst) is really really hot? He has really crystalline blue eyes and razor-sharp cheekbones and speaks FIVE languages (Spanish, English, French, German and Italian) and is a loving father and a really awesome boyfriend and drives a motorcycle and...

I'll be in my bunk.

Same, whenever I saw him in GoT I kept expecting his cat to be nearby.

Mrs. Norris, yes. I did as well!

Funny, when I was watching GoT I kept looking for Filch's red-eyed cat ...

Me too

Even when he was in Doctor Who, all I could see was FILCH IN SPACE! and it made me hate myself because it kept pulling me out of the story. I mean, I'm an actress, so I know how tiring it is to be typecast, but I can't help doing it myself.

*nods* I can't remember him in Who, but for me the fact that he looked so much like Filch -- long greasy hair, drabbish shabby clothes, malice a-glinting in the eyes -- made it difficult to see him as a different character.

Dinosaurs on a Spaceship spoilers

He played the guy who pushed the Silurians off the spaceship in the episode with the dinosaurs, and got blown up. I think his name was Soloman? But yeah, he was a pretty self-serving character, which just cemented the connection in my mind. And he played the first Doctor in an episode...forgot the title, though.

oh! Right right right, I remember now.

He also played William Hartnell in "An Adventure in Space and Time", the movie about how Doctor Who started. I'd say he was a pretty good visual match for Hartnell.

He was SO good in that. I cried and cried at the end...

(Anonymous) 2014-08-22 12:19 am (UTC)(link)
I think of him as William Hartnell, so *shrugs*

(Anonymous) 2014-08-22 12:30 am (UTC)(link)
I find this really adorable - especially the "oh, there he goes pretending to be other people..." bit.

Me too.

This made me genuinely grin and feel happy.

(Anonymous) 2014-08-22 12:38 am (UTC)(link)
I can only recall him playing assholes, so his lovely portrayal of William Hartnell was some serious cognitive dissonance for me.

(Anonymous) 2014-08-22 01:19 am (UTC)(link)
He was AMAZING as the guy who played the First Doctor. I'd watch more of his stuff.

(Anonymous) 2014-08-22 01:24 am (UTC)(link)
I used to have the same feeling about Rex Harrison. He was always just Henry Higgins pretending to be other people for some reason.

(Anonymous) 2014-08-22 01:26 am (UTC)(link)
Fair enough. Though I think "Professor Bruttenholm 2.0/Vampire Slaying Holocaust Pawnbroker" is a more interesting way to remember him these days.

(Anonymous) 2014-08-22 08:31 am (UTC)(link)
I loved him in the other roles people mentioned, but for me David Bradley's standout role was as Jack Marshall in "Broadchurch". Amazing performance.

He's actually the nicest celeb I've ever met so whenever I see him I think about that. Which given that he usually plays creepy people makes things a bit weird.
