I....don't get it. You're saying SGA is worse than Teen Wolf? If you go by this kind of ranking, there are over 20000 more Sterek fics on AO3 than any other pairing, and I'd bet that a large number of those (Scott/Allison, Boyd/Erica, and Lydia/Jackson) are only as high as they are because they're common secondary pairings in Sterek fic.

Another thing to remember is that AO3 only came into existence toward the end of SGA, so there's a lot of fic archived other places as well. Het writers used to post more to fanfiction.net (though that's changing). It's hard to get a totally accurate read of how the pairings break out on ff.net because of the search system, but if I search for John and Rodney I get 3.1K fics, 2.6K for John and Elizabeth, and 1.5K for John and Teyla. And John/Elizabeth had their own archive, Command Dynamics. I'm not saying McShep wasn't the largest ship in the fandom - it definitely was. But I'm not sure checking the AO3 stats is the best way to make a determination of variety when you're talking about an older fandom.

Just as an example, if you check the AO3 stats for NCIS, it looks like Tony/Gibbs is more than three times as popular as Tony/Ziva - 1697 fics to 462. But if you go to ff.net, there are 9.2K fics for Tony and Ziva compared to 4.7K fics for Tony and Gibbs.

And I'm going to shut up now - not sure why I got to rambling on in this comment. :(
