You're not being an ignorant tool by demanding a cite for provocative claims. The person making those claims is already presupposing you don't know, so it is up to them to provide back up for them. By not providing them, they are being an arrogant douche in just thinking you should accept their word as gospel. Remember extraordinary claims require extraordinary proofs. Never be afraid to demand the person making them back them up, and never think you have to waste your own time doing someone elses fact checking for them.

This. I have no problem looking up things if I need/want to, but if a person can't be arsed to back up their claims with even one single link, then I start being suspicious of what the person is claiming.
