because if you can't talk openly on your blog... about what you shipped without someone coming back ....telling you that you're a sexist, homophobic bigot with a closed mind

So let me get this straight. You were just innocently chatting about your het ship, and people barged in, for no reason, saying you were homophobic? Color me unsympathetic, but methinks there was more to the picture.

On the mailinglist I was part of back then (anyone who was into GW 1xR fandom will most likely know what this mailinglist was, because it was one of the only refuges for 1xR fans to really blow off steam without fear of being railroaded) there were pretty much ALL the BNFs of the 1xR community in 1 place and we all talked about how we felt 1x2 wasn't and couldn't possibly be canon... we were NEVER vindictive about it, and I can guarantee that, most people were 20+ and even the younger ones were quite mature about it all. Some might cry the odd "the yaoi fangirls really irk me!" but it was never ever on the level of hate that I'd seen on other websites. The whole Relena pink elephant website comes to mind... if anyone remembers that.

Anyway, someone from a popular 1x2-2x1 website joined our ML under the guise of being a fan, they kept quiet and didn't post much which aroused some suspicions as to who this person really was, since we were a very close knit community and after some investigation we found out who the person was. They had been copying our posts on the ML to their website forum and tearing us apart, calling us bigots and homophobic haters etc...

FFN.net was always a breeding ground for yaoi fanbrat hate, they would often post hate reviews when they had never even read them.
Again going back to the pink elephant website (where the girl who owned it would delete parts of doujinshi and manga where Relena appears and replace it with pictures of pink elephants and wrote masses of hate essays often referring to fans as idiots and bigots etc... I once spoke with her about my views on Relena and her response? Sent me a large gay porn image through email. *sigh*

The whole "non-yaoi, not anti-yaoi" came from GW fandom because the het fans had to write out an essay-like ToC to yaoi fans explaining that their fics were about het relationships but that didn't mean they hated yaoi and even actually APOLOGIZING for it.

Like someone else said, fanfic websites had warnings against het fics too, so that yaoi fans could avoid seeing het fics because being a het fan was synonymous with being homophobic back then.

I was one of these idiots who used to apologize to yaoi fans for the sake of a quiet fandom life, but with this comm I thought hey, this is a way to say what I REALLY thought back then. I admit I wrote it wrong and caused a lot of wank, I probably should of left out some words and added others-- BUT, I don't apologize for my view of those fangirls, we 1xR fans had a hell of a time back then--some came across it and some didn't but the fact is it did happen.

Ah. I have no idea about any of that, and honestly, can't be bothered to try to work out all the players. Old news, and wanka-specific news at that.

If you had stuck to that, I would have yawned and gone on my merry way. But, unfortunately, as you say, the wording was off in so many ways.

1) It was in the present tense" "Surely I'm not the only one tired of hearing..."
2) It did that big ol' generalizing thing: "yaoi fanbrats". That term bugs me cause I never know if I should be insulted or not. Phooey.
3) And the inclusion of the word love. That just confused me.

But if your beef is truly with stuff that happened in the past, and you were just getting it off your chest, then I hope this helps you. Truly. It must suck to carry that much hate around.

On the plus side, it looks like most people here acknowledge that fandom (for the most part) has grown up, and that gives me more hope than anything.

So here's the thing - I'm fine with the fact that you ship 1xR and think 1x2 could never be canon. I'm the exact opposite. 1x2 is the only pairing with Heero in it that makes sense to me, and a 1xR romance seems to have no basis in canon to me. People have different interpretations, and I'm perfectly happy to ship and let ship. What offended me was the implication that yaoi, and 1x2 specifically, isn't about love. For me, it really IS. I ship all aspects of 1x2. I'm not just in it for the smut. Hell, I barely ever read smut! I'm sorry some idiots hurt your feelings, but you shouldn't spread that hate towards other people because you feel slighted. That makes you no better than them.

And seriously, I ship yaoi and het. All my pairings are about the love. Don't lump people together based on labels like that.
