One of mine is when a few years back, a forum member started sending nice messages using a sockpuppet account. Some of those members began to ask who it was, and many of us asked why we hadn't received anything like that yet. (A lot of us had displayed our emails, I think. Or it was sent through Private Messages as a sock.) So of course the Greeting Fairy (or whatever she was called) had to bustle around sending things to everyone, apologizing for people who hadn't received them. We still weren't happy and said she was starting a popularity contest, even though we'd really decided it was one. I later found out who it'd been - a sort-of BNF there who hadn't posted much since. She came back after the fact, but not much.

I still feel bad that I was one of the people acting so petty. Looking back she was obviously doing it with good intentions, and it got out of hand. I do think she should have seen that coming, but we also should have been way more mature than that. :( I especially wish it hadn't basically driven her away.
