A lot of people can't read or write fics in their native language. Me too, I can only read English fics.

Oh dear god, this seems like a secret I would publish. Totally agreeing with you, anon.

Porn in my first language doesn't sound crude and vulgar, it sounds ridiculous and stilted. I once tried to read some ~acclaimed~ gay erotica book in my language and I had to quit 50 pages in because it was straight-up embarrassing to read.

Are you me? I can read fanfiction in my native language, just not smut/porn. I still write my own in English.

I couldn't read porn in my native language, I can barely talk about sex in my native language tbh. It just sounds so crude and quite frankly just stupid...

So I'd imagine if I wrote stuff, I couldn't write sex in Norwegian.

I don´t really read Dutch fanfic, unless it would be about characters that speak the language normally. one of my friends wrote it and...nom just no. If it´s about American or english characters, I´d just feel very weird hearing them in my head in another language.

Same, I find it crude and utterly unsexy.
Actually, while I don't mind cursing in English language fics, I also find native-language fics that have cussing to be unpleasant.

I've found that I couldn't write that Persona fanfic i wanted to write in english, because the dialogue just didn't work in anything but japanese. Especially the dirty talk.
Some things sometimes just feel off.
But I played Persona in japanese, watch anime in japanese, and anything originally English in, well, English. The last time I wrote smutty fanfic in my mothertongue, German, was when I last wrote for a fandom whose material is originally German.

I'm curious as to what OP's native language is now.

Same, it's either too crude for me or unnaturally euphemistic, which can go purple, medical, or like listening to my mom talk about wieners. At least IRL the crude language works for me when talking with actual partners but it took some time to get used to.

I think reading anything in a second language, you give it the benefit of the doubt, so it just seems better.

The few times I've tried to read fanfic, smutty or not, in other than my native language (English native, read in Dutch) it's been quite fun, even though I don't think the fics were that good. The mind fills in the gaps and improves it. It's the same reason that horror movies should never show the monster. Expectation is always more powerful than reality.

You are not alone. Reading fic in my native language is pretty awkward and the words used in porn pull me right out of the story. Writing fic in my native language is practically impossible because it's even more awkward and vulgar sounding.

I know what you mean. Erotic fics in my language sound like cheap-o porn. I stay away from it.

Yeah I know what you mean. Once I wrote smut in my native language (norwegian) and it took a ridiculous amount to time to write it down because I kept thinking things like "how can I make this sound hot and not sick and wrong" and "norwegian has no nice words for genitals"

I try to avoid writing any fic, porn on not, in my native language, because I still haven't MASTERED my native language.
Our grammar is wack, man.
But more generally, most erotic words either sound very awkward, or have been made awkward through association since they've been so badly used in the terrible acclaimed classics that we read for school.

I love reading porn in my native language, the kinkier the better. But I can't write smutty fic in my own language.

I can't read fics in my language at all. It sounds weird.
