This is making me flash back to my first real bra, when I refused to leave the house because the lines were showing and my Mom was eyerolling so hard because I refused to believe that that's a normal thing.

(Anonymous) 2014-08-23 11:01 pm (UTC)(link)
My experience was the other way around.

I would try to leave the house and my Mum would be doing that horrified loud mum-whisper "YOUR BRA IS SHOWING!" She really freaked out about it. I never found the reason why.

Agreed!

Agreed so much.

I have nothing to say except that yes, it's nice! (But I don't notice it often on tv, so not sure if it doesn't happen often or if I'm not very observant.)

Aw. I saw the picture first and was hoping this was a CM or Prentiss secret. That being said, I agree OP.

(Anonymous) 2014-08-23 09:56 pm (UTC)(link)
Me too. I miss Prentiss. :(

(Anonymous) 2014-08-23 10:06 pm (UTC)(link)
Totally agreed.

I hadn't really thought about it, but I do like it! I'm sometimes a little amazed how actresses can so often look clearly supported but without any sign of actually wearing a bra, especially with a tank top or cami or something where it's not that easy to put a bra on underneath without it showing. I wish I had a wardrobe department working for me to source the perfect bra for every garment (that fits and I don't have to pay for) and to alter my clothes to have built-in bras or so the bra doesn't show!

Tape. The secret is a minimal bra (perfectly fitted by the wardrobe department) plus tape. I feel for their poor tender skin!

lol what? now i have to worry about bra lines? that's a thing?

fuck that! life's too short.

(Anonymous) 2014-08-24 01:52 am (UTC)(link)
Seriously. This is the first I've heard of it.

That reminds me: Jen Aniston hardly ever wore a bra on Friends. It was a little distracting :P

(Anonymous) 2014-08-24 05:04 am (UTC)(link)
I do believe that's part of the reason why she shot to (perky) fame.

Joining the chorus of agreement. It's a little sad that small touches of realism can be so satisfying.

:D

I love the response this got!

I honestly hadn't even thought about it until I noticed it, one day. But I work in a bra store, now, and the number of women who come in and complain about how "disgusting" it is to see bra or panty line is astonishing.

Re: :D

(Anonymous) 2014-08-24 08:15 pm (UTC)(link)
Wow: I share your astonishment... I don't find them disgusting, they're a part of real life, IMO. Obviously, one should try to minimize them since they re often the sign of a bra that is too small or doesn't fit, but disgusting? Mm.

And a lot of people also seem upset about panty lines under fitted pants or skirts. Possibly because I never lose any sleep over it -though of course I am aware I should try to minimize those too- and I sometimes get family reactions like 'OMG, your panty line is showing, you can't go out like that!'

I just don't see why some get all excited about such things and relate them directly to one being indecent when current fashion encourages tight, revealing garments so much... Even finding long sleeved tops is a battle for women (in California), never mind opaque ones that do not show your cleavage or bra straps, or pants that do not show your panties. And bra lines are what people are worried about?!

It seems very unfair to women because we are held to impossible standards: we are supposed to wear those tight, revealing garments WITHOUT any lines showing anywhere? Apart from 12-year-olds, I don't don't know who can do that... I am not denying that a properly fitted bra should in theory minimize bra lines, but depending on one's size and choice of top or shirt, I am not sure how they can reliably be avoided without wearing a poncho.

I guess I have just demonstrated how little I know about bras... :)

Men. Men can wear tight, revealing clothing without lines showing anywhere.

I was thinking about this one, the other day. Men seem to dominate the "high fashion" and regular fashion industries, and they create impossible garments for the average woman to wear. but because they're dressing walking clothes hangers who will wear them for all in "public" of three minutes, it really doesn't matter whether or not they wear a bra or panties.

Furthermore, men don't have to wear a bra -- and unless they have shit seeping out their ass, they don't really have to wear underwear. The only thing they have to do, sometimes, is wear an undershirt under a business shirt, but seeing the lines from that denotes they are either wealthy enough to own a shirt nice enough they don't want to sweat directly on the fabric, or they're creating another layer so you can't see their nipples. And it's still totally acceptable to see a line over the shoulder from that shirt. So they can wear spandex, lycra, cotton, muslin without "fear" of showing lines.

Women's fashion is still based on men's bodies. Even though we have two completely different things going on, regarding soft, dangly bits. So that's my rant.
