Social justice warriors. It was a good term that described a certain type of keyboard warrior but now it's thrown at anything and anyone these days.

This.

Also, hipster, although that one's mostly fallen out of vogue nowadays I think.

I never knew what hipster meant in the first place. Perhaps they were a localized phenomenon?

Yep. It's basically key for 'shut up, we're all equal, you just want to whine'.

Yeah, no. I wouldn't dismiss everyone that calls someone else an SJW an idiot.

Sometimes 'sit down, embarrassing and cringey person who is not even of the group they're whiteknighting, we can speak for ourselves.'

Okay, but it's more like we should dismiss 90%.

Most people using this term now are much, much shittier than the people they're criticizing and I don't say that lightly.

DA

It has become the new politically correct these days.

that's a lot coming from you, given how much you've used the term in that exact way in the past

No, I really didn't use it the exact same way. What, did you make a shitty argument and I mention it or something?

It used to refer to a certain sort of person on tumblr (say, calloutstuck), but now it's applied to every single person online who care about any sort of social issue unimportant to basement dorks

Hell, it's gotten to the point where the basement dorks are accusing 4chan's /co/ of being SJWs. That's right, they're so offended about people being less weird about those who aren't white heterosexual dudes that they're accusing a fucking 4CHAN IMAGE BOARD of being sjws

I don't use it anymore, except infrequently when I'm referring to exactly that sort of tumblr person, because again it's turned into a dogwhistle. I don't want to encourage this shit.

Yep. It's basically used to shut down any criticism no matter how valid it may be.

Yeah, it's turned into the LOOK A WOMAN SAID A THING GO YELL AT HER FOR HER OPINIONS dogwhistle

Re: Words that have lost meaning to you?

(Anonymous) 2014-08-23 08:29 pm (UTC)(link)
I use it as a term to describe anyone that dismisses an opinion not for what it says but because of who is saying it.

Attack a person's point. Not things they can't control like their race, sex, gender identity, sexual orientation.

Being born something doesn't make you right.

It's funny because I see both SJWs and bigots use this tactic. Not So Different ironically...

I don't even want to discuss social justice issues online anymore because it never ends well.
