There aren't that many shipping possibilities in this film for slash fans that don't include a talking animal and a sentient tree.

I love any movie that can inspire that line at all.

That prompt that I left, in any other fandom it would be outright noncon. Starlord/Peter is such an optimistic character that I even hesitated to tag it dubcon for a second. There was a lot of violence in that film, but the general atmosphere was incredibly good-natured, especially considering all the outright evil characters. I was impressed by the amount of comedy they could wring from terrible situations. The villain bits actually kind of bored me.

I want to know a lot more about Nova Prime. I imagine she has an interesting history.

It's true, this film is a gift to mankind.

IMO Marvel isn't very good at writing villains that are actually interesting or unique. Ronan was so boring I think I'll be skipping most of his scenes when the DVD comes out, and even Thanos didn't inspire any sort of intrigue for me. The only one who I thought was remotely decent was Nebula, and I feel like I'm biased with her because I love fucked up sibling relationships, and also she looks cool and is hot. /shallow

Maybe she'll have a bigger part in the next Guardians? I'd like for them to team up!

Loki is the only good villain I can think of so far in a Marvel movie.

I love movies where the villain is the most entertaining character. Perhaps people find that too problematic nowadays? Or perhaps the anti-hero has come back more into fashion, lessening the need for well-rounded antagonists to shade that dark side of the story?

The thing that most angered me about GotG was the whole Nebula/Gamora plotline. It could have been one of the best things about the film. Instead, it was confusing and pointless.

I did not believe that Gamora could have kept secret that she hated her adoptive father for years and years, when she spilled all to the Guardians within days of meeting them. She just didn't seem like the deceptive type. I did not believe that Nebula would have missed that hate, as jealous of her adoptive sister as she was supposed to be. I did not believe Nebula's motivation for aiding Ronan so completely, up to the point of nearly dying for him.

The problem is that when I think about it, the whole family rivalry motivation thing could actually make a lot of sense, but during the actual movie, the writing was so bad, or perhaps the editing - was that story arc maybe cut into nothing? - that it was wholly unconvincing.

I really want to search for Gamora/Nebula fic that rewrites the movie, and makes that side plot better, but I'm afraid I'll just find angsty porn. Tell the truth, I'm just too bored right now at how badly it was done.

I prefer everyone to be interesting, but that seems to be too much to ask. :(

I thought Gamora keeping her hatred to herself for years and years seemed a bit of a long shot too, but it was one of those things I just shrugged and went with because the film did a lot of more ridiculous things than that. TBH I feel like maybe she hasn't always hated him? Maybe it was a gradual thing where she wasn't fond of him, but as the years went by her mistrust and disgust with him grew and grew. Not sure what we were supposed to take away from that.

About Nebula, I just don't think she was in the film enough for her motivations to be believable; they should've included more backstory. I thought Karen was good in the role, but they didn't give her enough to do. (There was a bit more of Nebula and Nebula/Gamora in the prequel comic, but...you shouldn't have to read that to feel like you know the characters.)

Personally, the Loki/Thor relationship is one of my favorite things about the MCU, so I was hoping for more of that and the film didn't deliver. Maybe for Guardians 2. We can only hope.

As much as I loved this film, and I did love it quite a bit, the pacing wasn't great. There were boring bits, and most everything that didn't include the Guardians themselves just wasn't as good. Maybe Marvel will learn for this and make a better movie next time.
