Am I the only one that likes Clara? She's feisty and not in love with the doctor. Double good in my book. Though I'd like to see a male companion next if she does go.

You're not. I think most of us just keep quiet here though. :/

I can't think of any non-feisty female companions, though. Not being in love with the Doctor is only remarkable in a post-Rose Tyler world, and I kind of resent that in itself.

Oh yes. I couldn't agree with you more on that.

I blame Russell T Davies, though: once you open that bag, you cannot ever close it again. It used to be that the Doctor was not really thought of as a sexual being (outside of fan fiction, anyway), but the end of the Rose storyline completely spoiled that. It's definitely one of the biggest factors in my dislike of the 10th Doctor...

And to be fair, Moffat sort of nailed that coffin with the whole River Song 'wife' thing, not to mention his weird 'will they won't they' thing between Amy and the 11th Doctor.

That is the main reason I am happy with the introduction of Peter Capaldi, because I hope it will curb that tendency to have sexual tension between the Doctor and a revolving cast of young female characters, companions or not.

I don't know if you'll read this since I'm a day behind, but I absolutely adore Clara. SHE is the entire reason that I ever even picked up the show. I refuse, however, to be pulled into DW discussions online because of the response that you get when you say that you like Clara (or that you like Moffat - see responses in above secret, etc). I've been in a lot of fandoms and I have NEVER seen people ripped apart for the "unpopular" opinions as I have in this fandom.

Personally, I don't dislike her... Her introduction was just too abrupt and we are expected to care a lot more about her than what we have seen of her so far justifies. There wasn't enough of a build-up to her relationship with the Doctor. By introducing her as 'the impossible girl', Moffatt is both highlighting the fact that we hardly know her and completely bypassing the emotional build up of her history with the Doctor, making it very hard for viewers to care for her, especially if they have been watching Doctor Who for more than a season.

I am sure that for people who only started watching a year before her introduction, Clara seems like a fine companion: she is indeed perky, resourceful, brave and quite cute, if the most cliched looking companion in quite a while. Let me count the ways: young, white, female, petite, very feminine, and did I mention very young and cute? (none of which is a negative, just very deja vu, is all.)

For people who have watched since the 2005 reboot, it's hard to get very much attached to her when the lamp shading trick used to introduced her robbed us of the natural process we had with all the other companions. Time...
