She's leaving? Don't blame her. Clara was wasted potential.

Rumored to be.

OP

No, I don't blame the actress (I actually find her adorable whenever I've seen her interviewed) but I so very much disliked the way she was written to interact with Eleven that I stopped watching after she'd only been in a few eps.

Ayrt

I just disliked the way she was written in general. There was very little depth to her and even with Jenna's lively portrayal of her, she was just so boring.

I really liked the actress too and it's a shame they didn't do more with Clara. I wish they'd either kept her with the Doctor instead of going back and forth with that nanny thing. Or better yet, just had her keep playing different incarnations of Clara instead of just one.

Out of curiosity, what didn't you like about their interaction? It's been a while since I've seen her eps and I stopped before the Christmas one.

Kind of the same. Nothing at all against the actress, it's not her fault. THis companion just isn't... interesting!

Then again my favorite is Donna so clearly I'm not normal.

Anyway, Moffat's no longer going to be the head writer, right? Does this mean we might get another companion that isn't just The Girl?

(Anonymous) 2014-08-23 08:10 pm (UTC)(link)
I believe he's signed on for season 9. So nooooooooooooooope.

(Anonymous) 2014-08-23 08:13 pm (UTC)(link)
Good. His haters' tears are delicious.

(Anonymous) 2014-08-23 08:12 pm (UTC)(link)
No. Only pretty girls companions are allowed. Donna was the exception.

(Anonymous) 2014-08-23 08:14 pm (UTC)(link)
Donna's not the exception because she's not pretty, Donna's the exception because she's not in her 20s.

Actually, Wilf is the real exception and also the secret best companion

Donna was great, but she wasn't my favorite.

I'm keeping my fingers crossed that Moffat stepping down is true. Maybe we'll get some companions who aren't the just The Feisty Girl.

I think her story is sort of...done. Everything after this will just be rebooting her as a character.

[personal profile] firstmoonie 2014-08-23 08:28 pm (UTC)(link)
Love the actress but the character must be the most forgettable companion of Who.

Sad to see she's leaving before getting her full potential out.

(Anonymous) 2014-08-23 08:36 pm (UTC)(link)
It's a rumour borne if tabloid speculation. Nothing has been confirmed.

Don't feel bad. I wanted her to leave with Matt.

(Anonymous) 2014-08-23 09:46 pm (UTC)(link)
Same, OP. Nothing against the actress, but the character was so very bland...

(Anonymous) 2014-08-23 11:05 pm (UTC)(link)
Mte, OP!

Spoilers for today's episode

(Anonymous) 2014-08-24 12:28 am (UTC)(link)
I think we're starting to see past Clara's admittedly bland exterior. She lost her temper and we actually saw her manipulating the bad guy a bit.

I don't know if this was just "The Doctor's useless post-regeneration so I have to do SOMETHING" or a real show of character, but we'll see in the coming weeks.

I do like that we've established off the bat that Capaldi is not the boyfriend. Less happy that we had a "it's times like these I miss Amy" moment, I do not want Clara to be Martha 2.0 with Amy being Rose 2.0.

Re: Spoilers for today's episode

(Anonymous) 2014-08-24 01:26 am (UTC)(link)
Unless we get more moments like that throughout the season, I'll just chalk up the Amy comment up to post - regeneration weirdness for time being.

I also liked the Vastra/Clara moment in the lounge.

(Anonymous) 2014-08-24 02:38 am (UTC)(link)
Am I the only one that likes Clara? She's feisty and not in love with the doctor. Double good in my book. Though I'd like to see a male companion next if she does go.

(Anonymous) 2014-08-24 03:47 am (UTC)(link)
You're not. I think most of us just keep quiet here though. :/

(Anonymous) 2014-08-24 04:08 am (UTC)(link)
I can't think of any non-feisty female companions, though. Not being in love with the Doctor is only remarkable in a post-Rose Tyler world, and I kind of resent that in itself.

I don't know if you'll read this since I'm a day behind, but I absolutely adore Clara. SHE is the entire reason that I ever even picked up the show. I refuse, however, to be pulled into DW discussions online because of the response that you get when you say that you like Clara (or that you like Moffat - see responses in above secret, etc). I've been in a lot of fandoms and I have NEVER seen people ripped apart for the "unpopular" opinions as I have in this fandom.

(Anonymous) 2014-08-24 11:41 pm (UTC)(link)
Personally, I don't dislike her... Her introduction was just too abrupt and we are expected to care a lot more about her than what we have seen of her so far justifies. There wasn't enough of a build-up to her relationship with the Doctor. By introducing her as 'the impossible girl', Moffatt is both highlighting the fact that we hardly know her and completely bypassing the emotional build up of her history with the Doctor, making it very hard for viewers to care for her, especially if they have been watching Doctor Who for more than a season.

I am sure that for people who only started watching a year before her introduction, Clara seems like a fine companion: she is indeed perky, resourceful, brave and quite cute, if the most cliched looking companion in quite a while. Let me count the ways: young, white, female, petite, very feminine, and did I mention very young and cute? (none of which is a negative, just very deja vu, is all.)

For people who have watched since the 2005 reboot, it's hard to get very much attached to her when the lamp shading trick used to introduced her robbed us of the natural process we had with all the other companions. Time...
