I disagree about a lot of the way Doctor Who is written, but I also did when Russell Davis was the show runner, to the point where I am a lot more tepid about Doctor Who in general.

Having said that, I agree with your comment, but I would extend it to a lot of other people: there are people who become celebrities for one reason or another and who it is apparently cool to slag off and then let the rest of the public put down for no reason whatsoever, sort of like in a perpetual flame war... It gets personal, it gets intense, it gets vicious and over-the-top: pretty soon they get accused of everything under the sun whether it's justified or not, and it becomes acceptable to react to their name with derision and contempt regardless of the circumstances.

That's the mob mentality for you and internet outrage only reinforces it... if you give people half a chance, they'll pile on until the end of time, regardless of whether they have the actual facts or it's any of their business or not. And that is how real wars get started too, BTW, which is not reassuring at all...
