I really hate when people use the argument "Don't you have anything better to do with your life?"

I mean, I don't know how long it takes you to do things.
But I know it takes me all of like five minutes to write up a complaint about something.
Five minutes, irregularly, out of a 24-hour day.

I would hardly consider that wasting one's life. That doesn't even count as a real fragment of one's life. Not by a long shot.

As for the subject of the secret, I don't really give a shit. People have opinions.
It only really starts crossing the line when they start stalking or harassing the creators, or actually interfering with the way they live their lives.
If you put something out there, not everyone's going to like what you do.
And they're not entitled to.

To me it's an enormously stupid thing to say because sometimes I'm multitasking. If I'm running an experiment that has an hour-long incubation period or longer (which is quite common in my line of work) well yeah -- sometimes I like to take a break and post about fandom.

Wow…I'm sure whoever is saying "Don't you have anything better to do with your life?" is really making more of a contribution to the world than I am.

Plus, just typing that out indicates that you're reading other people's opinions and "wasting" time commenting on them. Pot meet kettle, much?

IA. People have opinions and they want to express them, and as long as they aren't being total dicks about those opinions (IE harassing creators, or being rude to other fans, etc) it isn't that big a deal. Sometimes you want to talk about something even though you had issues with it.

Now I do think some people go too far and don't find that kind of thing cool, but I don't consider "I don't like this person's writing" or "IMO they're a terrible director" bashing.
