See, I'd argue that this is a little different. JJ Abrams and Bob Orci and company didn't create Star Trek. What they did was take creative control and fuck it up really hard. I think it's okay to rage at the reboot films, because they are an aggressively different beast than the entire franchise. IMHO that is something a fifty year old fandom seriously has every right to complain about. Explosive action flicks starring bumbling moron Kirk who tripped and fell into the Captain's chair while Spock cries and punches people in the background? Nah. Hate on it alllll you want.

My unpopular opinion here would be the endless criticism and wank that poor Enterprise inspires. It is nowhere near as bad a show as the fandom would have you believe, but the internet hate machine churns on. Really undue ire for a four season show that was cancelled almost a decade ago.

I've seen the "entitlement" argument brought up a lot with Star Trek fans though. Quite often, complaints about the new films are dismissed as being due to "bitter" Spirk fans who are angry that they didn't get their way.

As though Spirk fans are the only ones who have issues with the new films…

But thank you for your support! I shall, indeed, continue to hate on the terrible decisions made.

So would you say Doctor Who fans are similarly un-entitled when complaining?

Yep. Same situation.
