I think I get what you're saying. The thing is, you should go with what makes you happy. A lot of people will say you "need to" be with someone, even friends, in order to be happy, because it's "not healthy" to stay alone. Bullshit. If you're happier alone, then that's what you should do. The trick is, if you're not really happy, but just giving up on trying for some preconceived notion of coupledom, then maybe rethink your perspective on the whole thing.

I think the problem is that the OP *doesn't* sound like s/he genuinely prefers being alone, but thinks there's no point in trying to be with people because they're not perfect enough and because it's hard/there's a risk someone will dislike them. Like your last sentence says.

I agree with your entire comment, but also agree with anon in that they don't sound like they would rather be alone, they sound like they've given up hope for ever finding someone but still long for a relationship. The problem being... Real people aren't perfect, but tbh... I don't think I've ever seen a fictional character that was completely perfect either.
