I think it would be more accurate to say that the Carry On films have jokes that are racist or sexist. Not quote-unquote problematic. They're also largely parodying genres of films that are even more full of racism and sexism.

I don't think that should stop anyone from enjoying them. I think those are bad things, they're flaws, but I think everything that ever existed has been flawed. I like them and I like a lot of things that are worse. But I'm not sure why we see the need to distance ourselves from the reality of what was happening in them and surround everything with air quotes and say that only SJWs could object to anything in them.

But, at least from my understanding, things that are sexist and racist fall under the problematic banner. Because anything that anyone could possibly object to ever has started to fall under that umbrella.

Are racism and sexism good things? Not at all. I'm glad that in real life, in general, in many cultures, attitudes have changed for the better. However, I greatly dislike the current movement that says if you enjoy anything with any kind of those things, you, personally, are a monster.

My point wasn't that only SJWs could object to anything in them. My point is that vilifying someone who enjoys these films and labeling them as a racist, sexist, jerkface is not helpful.

Yeah I agree with all of that. I guess my feeling is that using that language for it seems to often be an argument against the idea that those are actual bad things that exist - a lot of people seem to use that kind of language to indicate that people who object to things are making it up somehow.

I def agree that vilifying people isn't helpful and enjoying them is fine if you're aware of it and you can enjoy it. Just, you know. Those things were there.
