OP: This wasn’t directed at anyone who really liked him and are grieving.

It's good to hear he was more genuinely loved than I thought and I hope he's chilling on some cloud listening to it all, but I just hate how whenever a celebrity dies they suddenly could do no wrong and are beyond criticism even to people who didn't seem to be that fond of them before. When Heath Ledger died I remember some gossip boards I was at going from "Asshole. Made some decent flicks" to "ZOMG GREATEST ACTOR OF HIS GENERATION! NATIONAL TREASURE! LOSS TO HUMANITY!" and running out anyone who thought differently. I'm just like... Robin Williams wasn't for everyone. If you didn't like him it's okay and you don't need to pretend otherwise just because of him dying.

This is a big subconscious (or conscious!) belief to "never speak ill of the dead." Whether that's what people are doing is another thing entirely, but I imagine at least some are doing just that.
