I believe those are all former companions of the Doctor. Martha hate makes me sad cheese. I also love K9.

Gwen Cooper wasn't on Doctor Who. She was on Torchwood. She is/was generally regarded as the most polarising character because she was an admitted creator favorite and an in universe Mary Sue.

Frankly I think what put a lot of people off Gwen was her cheating on her fiance, feeding him retcon pills to get away with shit, and then still marrying him while she was secretly pining for Jack.

I think she actually turned out more interesting over time - but gawd,it did irritate me. It's not even the cheating per se. It's the dishonesty with yourself in acknowledging what you want and letting others suffer for it.

Don't forget, as despicable as her actions were, she declared herself the moral compass of Torchwood and was rarely, if ever called on it. And no matter how awful someone else's grief or sorrow was her feeeelings were always more important.

Gawd, this.

I wouldn't even mind it so much if it wasn't for the moral compass" and "heart of Torchwood" shit both by the characters and the makers. She'd have made a decent morally grey character, but no, she was shoehorned into being something she was really not.

I liked her best when she was morally grey. And it would have been an interesting statement if the "heart of Torchwood/moral compass" was morally grey, but that would have required substantially more nuanced writing than we generally got.

Agreed. Initially I liked her, and I think if she hadn't been touted as the ~heart of humanity/Torchwood~ I would have enjoyed her being a terrible person, but what she did to Rhys was inexcusable because it was to make HERSELF feel better, and there was never any... comeuppance I guess I can't think of the word I want.

"WHY WON'T HE LOVE ME?!" etc

Plus sorry, but her season was dull as shit. If I wanted to spend an hour watching a traffic jam on the M25, I'd... go and watch a traffic jam on the M25.

Doctor Who is something where I feel like you can't blame characters for the plots they get put in by the writers

speaking as someone whose favorite doctor is 5

I never understand this complaint about 'Gridlock.' That's the set-up for the story, but there's actually a lot of action in it. It's not as if they just sit there in a single car the entire time.

DA

I agree there's action, but I still don't really like the episode. I'm not sure I could even tell you why - I just don't. H

ayrt

Oh, that's cool. I definitely don't wanna be like "rarrrr everyone must like this episode rarrr!" I just don't get the "but all they do is sit in traffic" thing.
