I just find it odd. Like, can they not see how well Marvel movies are doing? Are the execs at DC living in some cave where they are only allowed to watch the Nolan trilogy on repeat?

DC is still stuck in the grimdarkness of the immediate Post - 9/11 era that the rest of entertainment is seemingly starting to get away from (if Marvel is any indication.

You know, the no jokes thing works with Batman but not for most of the rest of the DC universe. Come on, The Flash could so be fun abd funny. (I am glad they are going the TV route with The Flash and the the movie route. A dower Barry Allen would be boring.)

And yet they are still committed to doing an Aquaman movie. I know they are trying to grimdark him up, and having him beat down Necksnapperman to prove it, but I liked the goofy Aquaman. He was cool by virtue of not trying to be cool, even if he was also a goofy dork at the same time. I don't think DC really knows exactly why its readership (and viewership from the cartoons) actually like DC's properties. All DC knows is they want to be taken oh-so seriously, like they are doing serious cinema and not those grubby popcorn movies Marvel makes.

On the subject of Marvel; where is my Kamala Khan movie, Marvel? Or She-Hulk? But not a Black Widow movie though please, that would just be full of all those Matrix/Underworld catsuit stunts and probably little else.

Oh, DC, why? There are always going to be funny parts, even in the glummest of circumstances.

This isn't DC in specific, however. This is Warner Brothers and David Goyer.

So no chance on that Flash/Roadrunner teamup movie then?

Idk, I feel like I care less about DC as a company and more about DC as a collection of characters and settings and stories

so it's not DC the company fucking up, but it's DC the creative universe getting fucked up

Is this DC's attempt at being the opposite of Marvel? Like, "Look at how much fun the Marvel heroes are, let's be the opposite of that! It makes us EDGY!"

Oh dear...I have a feeling it's not going to be good for DC...or the fans who want a good film. This makes me grateful that I like and care for Marvel more. I wouldn't know how to feel if I was a DC fan. I don't hate DC, just sad/disappointed that it hasn't been able to live up to its true potential.

Personally I think DC have misjudged it, the dark and serious zeitgeist seems to be pretty much over. The stuff I see people talking about these days are the more upbeat and less serious stuff.

It's sad because I can tell you right out the comics have plenty of snark and witty banter to them. But Warner Brothers has decided the David Goyer formula is the only one worth using (and Goyer himself is kind of a hack who believes his own hype) and so we get crap like this.

Yes, because the opposite of profitable is ...

Man, wow. The reason why I like the MCU movies so much is because of how endearing the characters are--partially because of how they can joke around with each other and have some goofy parts of their lives along with the action. I almost feel like making the DC characters more dark and grim and gritty is making them feel less...real? Like, anyone who's that dour ALL THE TIME probably has some issues (see: Batman).

Movies based on comics always suck.

All or nothing statements are generally wrong.

Hmmm... I saw a movie featuring a talking racoon and tree this last week. It didn't suck to me.

As someone who genuinely enjoys the Nolanverse Batman trilogy, this is unnecessary and sounds unpleasant. "No jokes ever" is not a good start. People need bits of humor, even in serious films. (Especially in serious films.)

Dark works for Batman, but I don't see why every one of their films need to have the same tone. WTH, DC. Look at Marvel; people enjoy lighthearted films, too.

Even the Nolanverse movies had jokes in them. Usually very dry ones told by either Michael Caine or Morgan Freeman, but they were there at least.

I don't even want the films to suck, I like the DC universe and I love a bunch of the characters, but the more I hear about what's happening on their side the less I am enthused by it all.

I mean it's fucking superheros, having fun with it is kind of the point.
